CALL FOR PAPERS

SAC 2002

Over the past sixteen years, the ACM Symposium on Applied Computing (SAC) has become a primary forum for applied computer scientists and application developers from around the world to interact and present their work. SAC 2002 is sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Applied Computing (SIGAPP) and is presented in cooperation with other ACM Special Interest Groups. SAC 2002 is hosted by the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain.

Bioinformatics Track

The post-genomic era has given rise to major computational challenges. New computational tools and approaches are needed to acquire, store, organize, archive, analyze and visualize the large volume of biological data produced by researchers around the world. The primary goal of this research paper track is to provide a venue for biological and computer scientists to share ideas related to this computational challenge.

Authors are invited to submit original papers addressing any computational biology issue. Intelligent data management and querying systems are of special interest.

Paper Submission Instructions!

Every author must register her paper(s) and submit its abstract(s) before the abstract submission deadline date (see Important Dates). In order to register the paper, the author must fill the Paper Registration Form and send it to the conference email address at bioin@cs.msstate.edu. Please, send the form using only ASCII (plain text) format, do not use Word, PS or PDF to send the paper registration form.

After you send the paper registration form, you will shortly receive a confirmation email. Your paper will be assigned a number to identify the paper, please take note of it. Before the paper submission deadline, you have to submit the electronic version of your paper at the conference email address at bioin@cs.msstate.edu. The format of the electronic version must be PDF or PS only, do not use Word for the electronic version of your paper. Your email should indicate the paper id assigned to your paper.

Paper Submission Guidelines

  • Papers should represent original and previously unpublished ideas that are currently not under review in any conference or journal. Both basic and applied research papers are solicited. Papers describing novel applications and making significant research contributions are also of interest.

  • The paper should not be more than 15 pages long using 11 point font and 1 inch margins on all four sides on letter size paper. Papers that fail to comply to length limitations risk rejection.

  • Electronic submission in PDF format is preferred, but Word and Postscript will also be accepted. Please note that hardcopy and fax submissions will not be accepted.

  • Authors must register their intent to submit a paper by submitting an electronic abstract of a maximum length of 200 words by the due date prior to the actual submission and obtain a paper identification number. The author(s) name(s) and address(es) must not appear in the body of the submitted paper, and self-references should be in the third person. This is to facilitate blind review. All submitted papers must include the paper identification number on the front page above the title of the paper.

  • Enquiries and questions may be directed to the Track Chairs. Additional details are available at the track home page at http://www.cs.msstate.edu/~bioin/ and at the conference home page at http://www.acm.org/conferences/sac/sac2002/.

    Publication of Papers

    Final Version
Each submitted paper will be fully refereed and undergo a blind review process by at least three referees. The conference proceedings will be published by ACM. Hence, all accepted papers should be submitted in ACM 2-column camera ready format for publication in the symposium proceedings. The maximum number of pages allowed for the final versions is 5 pages.

    Journal Publication of Selected Papers
We have plans to invite selected papers for possible publication in the journal Bioinformatics after significant extension and additional reviewing.
